Dear God,

Rarely, if ever, do we make provision for a sick day.  We live daily believing all will be well.  But then we are brought down low by an illness that sucks the life out of us.  When our temperature rises, a cough develops, and our bodily functions go haywire, we realize once again how vulnerable our bodies are.

We are arrogant beings, O Lord.  We like to think we can control life all around us.  We like to be masters over our own destiny.  We forget how little control we really have.

As I fell ill today, I simply had to stop what I was doing and go to bed.  I simply had no energy or wherewithal to do anything but rest, take medicine, drink water, go to the bathroom, and sleep.  At those moments, I let everything else go, trusted you, and rested in your care.

Thank you,
Great Comforter,
for being
with us
when we
are ill.
Thank you
for blessing us
with mercy
and tender care.
Thank you
for sick days
that remind us
of our dependency
on you.

Love, Andrea
