Dear God,

There is no better person to turn to than you when we face difficult times.  Today so many live in the mire of chaos, injustice, injury, grief and pain.  We look at our own families, our nation and our world.  For those caught up in violence, pain is so deep but you are deeper yet.

Lord, we forget who holds us when we are filled with loss and pain.  We see only what keeps us from peace.  We cry out but often to people and situations that do not help us.  We seek comfort in so many ill-equipped places.  These only deaden our pain but do not bring resolve or healing.  

We need your assistance, your comfort and love, O God.  Come to us, we pray.

You are God;

there is none

greater than you.

We lose hope

and forget

hope was created

by you.

Take hold

of us,

Merciful God,

draw us close

to you, 

I pray.
