Dear God,

Why the fascination with guns?  Why do we want guns in our homes, pockets and purses?  Why must we carry guns?  President Donald Trump once said everyone should have a gun.  That alone was enough for me to emphatically say:  NO WAY!

There are so many things I do not understand, O God.  I do not understand why legislators do not take assault weapons off the street.  They allow anyone to carry, use and kill people with them.  Why?  Is it not enough to know how many children have been slaughtered into tiny pieces with them?  

Have we lost our humanity, our compassion and our desire to do good?  When we have the capability of stopping such heinous crimes upon innocent people, why don't we?  Why don't we?

Merciful God,

we have become

a godless society.

We have failed

to love

our neighbor.

We forget

to follow

the Golden Rule.

Please, O Loving One,

bring comfort 

to all

we failed

to love,

to help

and to rescue.

Take the plank

out of

our eyes,

mind and soul

so we

can regain

the ability

to be merciful.
