Dear God,
The simplest things can bring me great delight. I must have some inner ability to make a moment special.
This morning I simply ate a grapefruit from Florida. Juice ran down my chin and I licked it off savoring the taste. I love salt on my grapefruit and I remember shaking it on when I was a little girl at my grandmother's home in Florida. I must have seen someone pour salt on theirs.
Every year I look forward to the gifts of each season. I love citrus in the winter, giving thanks for the fruit trees of Florida and California. In the summer I love tomatoes, my favorite food. My dad and his twin brother and I always ate our tomatoes the same way, washing it off at the sink, slicing it, pouring salt methodically across the slice and popping it into our mouths. Deeeelich! In the fall I love apples from the orchard in Indiana where it is fun to pluck them off the trees. In the spring I love the first radishes and lettuces. I remember them from my grandmother's garden. These foods are best in their particular season. I celebrate each one when their turn comes.
I realize how much joy comes my way when I am able to celebrate the new season with each of its particular gifts. I savor the taste and offer my gratitude.
A seed,
a tiny seed
becomes
something wonderful.
You make
the seed.
You provide
the sun
and water
and the ability
to grow.
I just sit
and eat.
You bring
a smile
to my face
and joy
to my heart
and gratitude
wells up
within me.
You are
my life's
greatest gift.
Love, Andrea
