Dear God,

Waiting, tomorrow is the first day of Advent, the time of waiting, preparing, clearing out, making a place, and opening our hearts to you.  Waiting, how can we wait for people to heal, for families to come together, for governments to redeem themselves, for answers to come, or for an insight that will transform?  How can we wait?

There is something about Advent, Lord, that teaches us about preparation.  It also provides us a better understanding of patience.  It surely talks to us about faith.

I look around and find so many needy people, people who seem not to be able to wait any longer.  Their hope is wearing thin.  They wonder about their faith.  But then Advent suddenly appears and we grab on to Zechariah's faith and Elizabeth's and Mary's and so many more.  Somehow we find ourselves a part of their story and waiting gives us a chance to draw near to you, to pray, to hope, to breathe the air of expectancy, and to meet you once again.

Holy God,
breathe on us.
Let the light
of hope
shine bright
and stir
within us.
Let its warmth
renew us
as we find
the benefits
of waiting.

Love, Andrea
