Dear God,

Do you remember when I was terrified by silence so I turned on the television, music or some other device to avoid the quiet?  Do you remember those days?

It was you, O Lord, who took my hand, drove me to the Carmelite Monastery and gave me a taste of holy silence.  You showed me silence is not to be feared but rather embraced.  You led me into quiet halls of solitude and there I found you in the depths of love, mercy, peace and joy.  Since those days back in 1989, I have tasted the sweetness of silence.  I prefer it to almost anything else.

You always have more for us than we can begin to imagine.  You work with our fears to bring us to a place of calm.  You let us wander the best of creation and there we find so much more.  My first times were scary but then as I embraced your dwelling place, I wanted nothing else.

Thank you,
Mysterious God,
for the gifts
of your spirit.
Thank you
for inviting us
into unfamiliar
but spiritual places.
Thank you
for teaching us
about trust,
faith and love.
Thank you
for allowing us
into the
dwelling place
of your
living, loving presence.
Thank you,
dearest God,
thank you.

Love, Andrea
