Dear God,

Today I watched as squirrels ran across the yard carrying nuts in their mouths.  Later I saw one digging in the ground tucking away the nut for a cold, snowy day.  I thought of how you created them with skills and instinct to do what they need to do to prepare for days when food is not so abundant.  That made me think of how you made us the same way.

You give us spiritual and emotional food for dark days, days when "food" is slim pickings.  You motivate us to prepare for those days as well.  The better we are prepared, the more we will weather hard times.  Just as squirrels are blessed, so are we.
