Dear God,

This morning as I sat with my circle of friends reading devotionals, I thought of my beautiful grandmother whose love embraced not only me but also her whole community of 500 people.  Her faith, her compassionate and her grace drew us all in.  She modeled a loving God whose embrace included all people.  She led us directly to you.

You were never a scary God to me, O Lord, for she showed me your gentle ways and tender care.  I discovered you as friend, comforter, teacher and helper.  I knew from the beginning I could trust you.  I leaned on you when trouble came, when sorrow took hold of me and when fear rose up within me.  I could celebrate with you my joys and triumphs.  I could rest in your arms at the end of my day.  

Thank you for bringing her to me this morning, O God.  What a lovely gift to offer so early in the morning!

for all 

the time

I got

to spend

in her presence.

Thank you too

for all

she taught me

about you.
