Dear God,

"Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted."  These words of your son came to me this morning as I found myself in sorrow from painful memories of the past.  As a human, Jesus knew we would periodically face loss and sorrow.  He knew that emotional pain has the power to rip apart the human heart, mind and soul.  He also knew we could dwell there for a long, long time so in this beatitude he offers us a change, a transformative possibility to heal with his divine comfort.

What I also realized is that our past can be our present and even be carried into our future if we don't change.  Your offer of comfort can be the healing salve that begins our healing journey if we desire it.  Why would we not?

Holy God,

every day

you offer us gifts.

Comfort is one

of those.
