Dear God,

In the last couple of days I have heard the word forgiveness, and it left me pondering.  How do we forgive those who continue to do the very thing that is unforgivable?  How do we truly forgive knowing full well that the same sin will continue with no sense of accountability?

I continue to follow the work of our president.  The man seems to have no compassion at all.  He is determined to fire people doing honest work.  It reminds me of what joy he took when he fired people on his show entitled The Apprentice.  He uses that same approach, tone and attitude with federal workers, immigrants, health care workers, teachers, pregnant women, disabled people, anyone who disagrees with him and I could go on and on.  The man is a monster, an evil monster and the fact that he is terminating good people, making policies to throw people away, spreading fear, dismantling our democracy and so much more, how can we possibly forgive him?

And yet, I do believe with all my soul that every person is a child of God whether they want to be or not or whether they act good or not.  The fact that we do not want to be godly, kind, good, merciful or loving never trumps (oh grief, that word) your desire to love everyone.  I believe grace is for all or for no one.  How do we reconcile all this, Lord?

We need
your wisdom,
your guidance,
your love
and your hope,
O God.
We want
to be
a people
of faith
who are just
and love kindness
and walk humbly
with our God.
Please show
us the way
in this time
of chaos,
conflict and evil.

Love, Andrea
