Dear God,
It is almost as if evil walked into our world. With no core of goodness, love or wisdom, evil has come to rob us of much that is purposeful and meaningful in the world. When our last national election occurred, it is as if evil was invited in. Since that time millions have been impacted by this evil force both here and around the world. How can it be?
It is easy to give in when life gets exceedingly hard, when it feels there is so much bearing down on us enough to crush us. It is hard to find enough air to breathe to keep us going. And yet, there are high and holy moments that remind us that nothing can topple us when we are trusting you.
Just yesterday there were three examples of goodness and beauty in the world...from strangers no less. I took my broken sewing machine to have it repaired. As soon as I stepped out of my car, lifted up my portable sewing machine and started to walk across the parking lot, a young woman tore out of the shop and literally came running across ice and snow to carry my machine. She took my machine in her arms, smiled a great big smile and then followed me into the shop. That was one but there were others. They were unexpected, a surprise. It seemed as though you were sending love to do battle with evil. In those moments I caught a glimmer of the fight of good and evil.
While I do not understand why all is happening as it is, little surprise acts of kindness, mercy and compassion, a direct opposite of evil, are popping up to remind us there is One who fights for us and that good will win by conquering evil. In the fight you expect us to stand strong, to trust, to do what we can, trust more and act on behalf of goodness in the world.
Holy God,
forgive us
when we waiver.
Be the
solid rock
upon which
we stand.
Help us see
with eyes
of faith.
Help us fight
with you
to bring peace
to all
your people.
Yours, Andrea
