Dear God,
For love to work, for you to love me, I must acknowledge that you love my neighbor, the stranger, the other whoever that may be. You cannot love me without loving others. You are not a pick and choose kind of guy; you are God. Love is always; love is now but it will also be later. Love is eternal.
I cannot abide our president. His actions and policies are evil. He is full of revenge, dedicated to hurting others. But your love for him is deep and wide just like it is for me. If I deny love for him, then love for me vanishes.
Love is not about being a good human being in order to be loved. Love is not about earning it. Love is gift, unconditional, merciful and for all. When I get deep down in the national and global muck, I realize I am one among many, no better, no worse. I don't deserve love any more or any less than anyone else. I am just loved and so is my neighbor. Love is just like this. And although it is hard to imagine how a mean person can get love, I come to understand that is both the beauty, the joy and the genius of love, especially yours.
O God,
forgive me
when I
act arrogant
or snobbish.
I really
do want
to love
like you love
but it
is hard.
Keep showing me
the way
and give me
the will
to love
without thought.
Thank you
for loving me
in spite
of myself.
Yours, Andrea
