My dearest God,
I learned another life lesson today, O God. Small pilgrimages of faith can be taken daily.
I worked hard today. I taxed every muscle in my body. I lifted and carried. I edged and crawled in flower beds. I scrubbed and ironed. I cleaned and walked up and down two flights of stairs many, many times.
Throughout the day I caught glimpses of your presence. First, it was the scent of lilacs growing in the backyard, then in the delicate detail of little white and small purple blossoms in the front yard. It was the scene of neighbors walking their babies and dogs across the antique paver sidewalk in front of our home. It was my husband's smile, his arms wrapped around me and his funny way. It was the taste of good food, the sunrise and looking out my bedroom window, the cold breeze gently blowing across me. It was the sound of my granddaughter's voice on the phone when she said she loved me. It was a chipmunk running across my path and diving into one of the holes in our yard, It was our conversation when I wrote my daily letter to you.
When I wait to encounter you just on Sunday in church, I miss six great days of small journeys with you. I forfeit wonderful opportunities to learn, to experience, to enjoy, and to celebrate. Today our pilgrimage guided me to heaven. Thanks!
You, O God,
bless me
again and again.
You appear
before me,
speaking your message
of love,
joy, peace
and contentment.
I am
never worthy
of so
much grace
but I am
always so very grateful.
Love, Andrea
