Dear God,

Eleven of us sat around the table, all friends of Church on the Cape.  We had met up for the monthly community roast beef dinner.  When the family style bowls of hot food were placed on our table, people's hands lifted the food, placed a scoop on their plate, and passed it to their friend, some going right, some left all at the same time.  The noise level was in increasing decibels as we all talked at the same time.  As one head of the table, I watched as strangers and friends interacted.  About thirty five minutes later we stood, walked out, bid each other goodbye, and then drove home.

I believe you have given us the ability, for different lengths of time, to make family.  Although we are from different backgrounds, religious affiliations, gender and sexual orientation, we made family in thirty five minutes.  We laughed, teased, and had wonderful fellowship all while we passed bowls a second, third, and fourth time.  Although several of us were not acquainted with others at the table, we made men our brothers and women our sisters.

Thank you
for making
all kinds
of families quick,
dear Lord.
Thank you
for including us all.
Thank you
for tables
open to everyone.
Thank you
for seating us all
at your table.

Love, Andrea
