Dear God,
The table was set for the people. All were invited. Manna from heaven, the bread and wine, sat on the table.
We entered in silence, the sanctuary lighted by glowing candles. We knew our host was Jesus. We listened as the choir sang and then we ate spiritual food. Then we heard the story told by the elders, one after another, who read their part of scripture and then extinguished a candle. The story of betrayal, desertion, temptation, loneliness, resignation, accusation, denial, injustice, mockery, crucifixion, death, and the tomb was told. We sat in darkness with the light of Christ until it too was extinguished. Then there was silence and darkness.
The realization of Jesus' crucifixion sunk in. Love spread in the silence and the darkness. Christ. God.
Holy Father,
lover of the soul,
bless you
for your gifts
from on high.
In the darkness
and the silence
you poured
your love
upon us.
One more time.
Love always, Andrea
