Dear God,

Only you can change an anxious heart.  A heart that rapidly beats, fears the future, and floods the soul with frightening images is one that feels far from the Master's hand.  An anxious heart cannot find peace.

One look at you and the peace that passes all understanding can penetrate an anxious heart.  The calm of heaven, the serenity of green pastures, and the sound of living water spilling over can transform an anxious heart.  This is because you are the prince of peace, the power of peace to overcome fear, and the gentle mercy that holds us close to your breast.

We fall prey to anxiety when we feel insecure and lack trust.  When we discount faith as the power to conquer, we give ourselves over to threatening gods believing them to hold power over us.  Yet, whose power is greater?  Whose power can help us triumph?  Whose love and desire to aid us is more?  Only you, Great God of the Cosmos, only you!

blessed are you.

You are

the author

of peace.

Your will

is for us

to be

a people

of peace.

Forgive us, please,

when we

give ourselves

to others

thinking them

more powerful.

We confess
our weakness.

Strengthen us

with faith,

we pray.
