Dear God,

The psalmist writes, "Sing a new song unto the Lord."  I take that to mean we need to reconsider the song we are singing and think about a new, revised one.

Sometimes I fall into complaining.  I don't like the way this is done or that.  A complainer's song is not inspirational, challenging or enjoyable.  It falls flat and says way too much about the complainer.  Other times I sing a song of joy, joy because of gratitude I feel for all you have done and are doing in the world.  Sometimes I don't sing at all.

Recently I read the psalm encouraging a new song.  As I write this, my song is a song of hope and joy.  I listen to the birds' song, a beautiful one.  In fact all spring long the birds have offered happy songs.  Their playful antics, mating call and providential care of their babies make their song all the more authentic.  I love to listen to them.  They cheer me up, give comfort and bless.  Perhaps my song needs to be like their song.

Blessed are
the birds
that sing
your praises,
Creator God.
Thank you
for them,
for their song
and their message.
Teach me
to listen
to all
your creatures.
For in them
I may find
my own song.

Love, Andrea
