Dear God,

The sound of silence welcomes quiet meditation, contemplation and prayer.  It eases suffering, disentangles cluttered thoughts and offers peace in chaos.  Silence heals, helps and holds us.

And to think for years I needed to fill my space with noise, busyness and stuff.  That sufficiently kept me full of chatter that kept me bound to whatever was troubling me at the moment.  Why?

Today as I stepped out of my car to fill it with fuel, I saw a sign on the gas tank that read, "Pray first."  I looked again and realized it said, "Pay first."  For the weary mood I was in, the first reading was correct.  That extended an invitation to silence, to quiet prayer and you, my good and gracious God.
