Dear God,

You gave us this new day, O Lord.  You awakened us this morning to the promise of another day.  At that moment you challenged us to determine how we will live these 24 hours.  We can give in to doubt, fear or despair and be paralyzed or we can use these minutes for strengthening our inner core of spirit, body and mind.

We can turn to nature, drink in all her benefits like stepping outside, breathing fresh air, taking a walk, talking to the birds and enjoying all the beauty.  Or we can open the bible, turning to John 1 in my own words, "In the beginning was God who created light and life."  God created but never left us.  We can contemplate those words all day long and realize you are sitting right beside us.  And, Lord, from there you send us forth to act, serve and work.

Throughout our day you tell us to go and do good.  Care for others.  Advocate for the weak, the poor and the troubled.  Blessed with strong voice and strong spine, you invite us to use our voice to aid those who can't speak or do for themselves.  You give us a long list of things we can do.  We can work to change laws, policies and plans to discriminate, eliminate and harm.  We can call leaders, protest, write, donate, comfort and help assist those hurting.

Forgive us, Lord, when we sit back, complain and do nothing.  Nothing is not an option.

Holy God,
you made us
for each other.
We are
not solitary figures.
We are
a community
of equal peoples.
Help us
make it so.
Move us
to do
our part
to be
the very kingdom
you want us
to be.

Love, Andrea
