Dear God,

How amazing it is to stumble over you in the darkness!  Sometimes when we are blinded by difficulties and uncertainties, it is like walking in darkness, unable to see what is around us.  Our blindness causes us to be anxious and afraid.  Our little self-made world or one made by someone else begins to crumble and fall.  Yet, there are those mysterious times when stumbling through our darkness we can trip on one of your gifts like an insight, a hope or a calming peace.  If we pause, take a breath and consider what is happening, a light can shine bringing us out of our darkness and into the light.  We can breathe anew, feel our own restoration and know that you are with us whether in the dark or in the light.

You have invited us all to trip over you, O God.  You have challenged us to move out of our situation into a hope or a different way.  By stepping in front of us even in the darkness, you give us new opportunities to change our direction, to lean on you and to have courage to step into our new future, how tiny or large it may be.  Perhaps we could find our way much more quickly if we anticipate your nearness!

wherever we are.

Thank you

for standing

in our way.

Teach us

to anticipate

your enabling presence.

And, as always,

put praise

and thanksgiving

on our lips.
