My dear God,

Are your promises sure and true in every situation? As I walk on the treadmill in my newly renovated basement singing songs of faith like Standing on the Promises, I build my faith. I feel happy, full of hope, appreciation, joy and love.

But what about the broken people of Japan laid bare by the unspeakable horrors of an earthquake and thousands of aftershocks, a tsunami, the destruction of whole communities, and not only the loss of home and family, neighbors, friends, and jobs but also now exposure to varying levels of radiation? Are those same promises possible for those whose souls are permanently etched with sorrow, grief, pain and despair? Are your promises powerful enough to lift souls from the bowels of hell?

Speak, O Lord,
to your people,
I pray.
