Dear God,

Why, O Lord, do so many have to suffer? This latest natural disaster makes us wonder what it all means. Is the planet convulsing because we are not the people we should be?

Such devastation, such horrific events stir fear within us making us wonder what is happening. In the past few years thousands have suffered the effects of earthquakes, cyclones, hurricanes, flooding, tsunamis, tornadoes and treacherous storms. Why, O Lord, why?

I can't help but believe that we are supposed to be praying for one another. I believe what happens to one impacts all others. If we are one human family, then terror in the life of some tugs at the rest of us to do something. Is that true?

I do not believe you plan to destroy people from time to time. I do not believe this is your plan. Yet, I can't help but wonder if there is more to it.

Why, O Lord, is there so much suffering?

I believe
everything that
befalls us
can produce
a life lesson.
I believe
we are part
and parcel
of one another.
Help us,
dear God,
to become
caring communities,
people who
love one another,
people who
are compassionate,
stirred to service.
Bless those,
O God,
who are
in great pain
right now.
Teach us
what it means
to truly care
for one another,
I pray.

Love, Andrea
