Dear God,

In the darkness, as the moon glows overhead, I pause to consider the day before me. I know that in an hour or so the sun will rise changing the picture entirely. The quiet will give way to noisy, busy households and traffic, people making ready to go somewhere, to begin the day, to make their daily bread, to say hello or goodbye. Today is a day of promise.

As I reflect upon your will for the world, for humanity, for me, I know each of us will stand at a crossroads making decisions about our life and the lives of others. We will stand at the precipice of yet another chapter in our lives. We will be given the opportunity to say yes or no to life.

As I make my way throughout this day, keep in my mind the many blessings you have afforded me. Remind me that my blessings are also a challenge to share goodness with others. Whisper to me the need to reflect upon those whose lives are painful today. Keep me praying especially for those for whom no one prays.

a blessing
to someone else today,
O Lord,
I pray.
