Dear God,

Today I was blown away by your powerful spirit. Once again you showed me how you can turn darkness into light, give life to dead bones, and make the sorrowing to laugh again.

This afternoon our friends arrived to join us for lunch. On their way to northern Maine they stopped in for a couple hours to reconnect with us after being absent in our lives for two or three years.

The whole time we were together I saw a love so rich, so pure, and so wonderful. I observed raw courage, great strength, and a zest for life. One of our friends has a deadly disease that is slowly robbing him of life. I remember back when he was first diagnosed. It was such a terrible time. A serious athlete, he had done all the right things to keep fit; yet, he fell victim to an insidious illness that will eventually paralyze every muscle in his body.

As our friends drove away, I gave thanks to you for the dramatic positive change I witnessed in our brave friend. Literally you changed his despair into joy and his defeat into dogged determination. And his wife, you made her the epitome of your son's gracious love.
