Dear God,

Can we make a better world? Are we really able to change what we have?

As I consider the planet, our continuing fight for land, water, and other precious resources, I wonder if it is even possible to transform who we are in order to make a more harmonious people.

Why do soldiers steal food from starving people? Why do rebels of whatever kind rape children? Why is abuse a way of life for so many, many people? Why is there so little respect for human life?

What can we do to enrich our humanity, to cleanse and purify our souls, and to refashion ourselves in order to regard the other person as a beloved friend or family member? What can we do to dramatically alter our beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, and actions? What can you do to help us?

O Lord,
teach us
to examine ourselves,
to search
for our
own imperfections,
flaws, and
dark places.
Show us
the way
to heal
and renew ourselves.
Make us
a more
caring people
so that
we may
help heal
and renew others,
I pray.

Love, Andrea
