Dear God,

Through a series of unexpected turns, my small retreat group found itself among the rocks down by the sea.  We had seen the cairns and were drawn to them.  We crawled down the boulders and sat among them.  Just a year ago on Peak's Island on a bicycle ride, we had come upon cairns and we were quite taken with them.  Although we didn't know what they were or the meaning of them, they held special spiritual significance to us.

As we sat among the rocks we talked about the retreat, the light, and your spirit's movement during our time together.  To be sure we had seen the light in church, in the singing, in the laughter, in the night skies as we looked into the telescope at the Astronomical Society, on Goat Island as we walked the grounds and climbed the tower of the lighthouse, as we read the children's lighthouse books, and as we lived our faith.  So content were we that we simply quietly gathered one stone, then another and before we knew it we had built our own beautiful cairn.  As we each one made small ones because it was what our hands wanted to do, we sensed your living presence breathing upon us and we were glad.

You teach us
to follow
your lead,
God Most High.
You show us
the way.
You whisper
your grace
and love
to us
and remind us
to do
our part
to build
a beautiful community
of faith.
Thank you,
thank you.

Love, Andrea
