My dear God,
This morning you drew me to your holy word. As I opened the bible to Matthew 5, I realized how much we needed to hear your words once again. I remembered reading the beatitudes when I stood on the Mount of Beatitudes many years ago. Your words spoke so profoundly then. "Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs is the kingdom of God." So when I led the hymn sing at church this morning I began with your own words from the sermon on the mount. "Blessed are those who mourn; for they shall be comforted."
I thought of our world in chaos this morning...wars, poverty, injustice, so much suffering. In my mind I wondered how on earth we stop the nonsense of destroying one another for our own personal gain. Your words kept coming to me as we sang our songs of faith. "Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God."
As we sang our last song, I picked up the bible one more time and read. "Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the children of God."
Holy God,
we have not
yet figured out
how to
bring about peace.
We have longed
for peace,
yet done nothing
or very little
to bring peace
to our world.
Make us
into peacemakers,
I pray.
Love, Andrea
