Dear God,

Bending to your will is an ongoing exercise for devotees of Christ.  As we consider the pilgrim way, we discover the need for bending.

Several years ago in a retreat we practiced bending by following a lighted candle wick in a gentle breeze.  As the flame moved so did we imagining the spirit wind blowing upon us.  I remember my own body rhythm as I leaned into you.

As I watch summer bend to autumn I see the benefits of bending.  The subtle color of green is bending to your will producing brilliant colors of orange, red, and gold.  Without the heat of summer the grass is turning lush green.  As summer gives up its hot days, cooler temperatures make walks and campouts more comfortable.  As the season of transformation is upon us, we witness spectacular beauty.

So it is with the spiritual life.  As we bend to your will and begin our own changing, we discover something beautiful in ourselves and in others.  With that beauty comes joy and gladness.

Transform us too,
O Lord,
as we
give way
to your will
in our lives.
Teach us
to move
with you,
I pray.

Love, Andrea
