Dear God,

Singing songs of faith lifts the soul and heals the wounded heart.  I can never listen to It is Well without thinking of Horatio Spafford, the man who penned the lyrics after the loss of all four of his children at sea.  When he wrote, "When sorrows like sea billows roll,..." he knew the agony of suffering and loss.  Mourning while standing on a ship at the site where his daughters were tossed into the sea during a severe storm, he suddenly felt himself lifted up by the only One who can lift that kind of despair.  He continued writing, "...whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul."  Faith that deep can aid any of us in our darkest hour.

As I contemplate the great suffering in our world, nation against nation, people against people, family member against family member, I realize it will take faith, deep faith rooted in love and compassion for all people to turn our world around.  Otherwise, we will simply keep persecuting, torturing, and killing until there is no one left.

Yet, I believe faith is ever greater than evil.

Holy God,
heal your people,
all your people.
For we
are all
your beloved.
You have
no favorites.
Heal us
so we
can heal
one another,
I pray.

Love, Andrea
