Dear God,

Darkness may threaten to penetrate the light but the light can never be snuffed out!  Conflict in our world is so pervasive; it seems as if the darkness has taken over the planet.  When we succumb to worry, anxiety, fear, judgment, and blame, we join the darkness and the darkness spreads like a contagion.  While the darkness whispers there is no way out, the light still shines to help us see our way.

When one person offers another a crust of bread, the light shines.  When one nation opens its doors to despairing refugees, the light glows.  When one family takes in another family, the light radiates.  When one individual prays for another, the light warms.  When one heart is moved to show compassion to another, the light bursts into the darkness.  When one offers forgiveness to another, the light brilliantly shines.

There really is more light than darkness, more hope than despair, more love than hatred.  O God, may we be carriers of your light.

Help us,
O Lord,
to become
light bearers.
Help us spread
the light
to those
caught in darkness.
Help us retrieve
the light
so we
may offer it
to others.

Yours, Andrea
