Dear God,

The old has passed away, the new has come.  We are always looking for a new day, a second chance, or a new opportunity to start over.  A new year has come with a clean slate.  We can rewrite chapters of our life by following your lead.  The old can pass away unless we insist on carrying it into the new year.  We can bog ourselves down with old baggage, but why?

Lord, I want to carry the gifts of your spirit that blessed me last year into the new year.  I want to carry your compassion and the giving spirit you have given me.  I want to carry your love because I know it can transform anyone and anything.  I want to carry faith, that wondrous gift that reveals your divine mysteries.  I want to carry grace, one because I need it to self sustain and two, because you want me to offer it to others.  I want to carry hope because it can buoy us when nothing else can.

These gifts, Gracious God, all come from you.  You give them to us for so many reasons.  Yes, I want to carry these into the new year but the rest of it, you can have.

Holy God,
thank you
for new beginnings.
Thank you
for fresh starts.
Thank you
for love
that renews itself
over and over again.
Praise to you.
