Dear God,
A tree is bare all winter long. Sometimes it makes long, dark shadows across the bright white snow. It may seem lost, forgotten. But spring comes and fills the branches with green and sometimes in the fall with berries or nuts. However, in October that same tree will display spectacular color. For those of us mesmerized by the beauty of Autumn we will gaze upon it day after day.
It makes me think about the spiritual life. We too may seem dull, without color. But like the tree, in the winter season of our spiritual journey, we may spend our time feeding on your word, listening to that word, and trusting in your word to teach us as we pray, meditate, and open ourselves more deeply to your wondrous spirit. Suddenly, we begin to show growth. We smile confidently, showing our faith more expressively. Before we know it we display your glory because when we are full up with your word, your love, and your grace, we can't help but reveal what is inside.
Gracious God,
giver of all that is good,
thank you
for blessing us
with a
winter season
in our
spiritual life.
Thank you
for your word
that comes
to us
through the bible,
music, friendship,
nature, and
so much more.
Thank you
for the
blessed display
that proclaims
your glory
to the world.
Love, Andrea
