Dear God,
Can we truly love our enemies? Can a mother forgive a teen boy of killing her 40-year-old son? Can we really love individuals who have hurt innocent victims?
I confess I hate our former president for his pervasive mean-spirited, threatening, lying, manipulative, abusive words, actions and behaviors. His intentional misinformation lead to the loss of lives by those who did not take important measures to protect themselves from the Covid virus all because they believed his lies. This is just one example, O God, just one of countless many unjust actions that hurt people, communities and nations. How can I possibly love this evil man?
How do we change our perceptions of others? How do we forgive and change our actions toward others we perceive as evil people? How do we love as you do?
Teach us
your holy ways,
O God.
Ultimately, I want
your will
for my life.
But I struggle.
Even now
I do
not want
to stop
hating this evildoer.
Yet, my soul
is restless
because I know
I am
not doing your will.
Help me
and so
many others,
Living God,
I pray.
Love, Andrea
