Dear God,
I remember walking down small, dark narrow corridors. I was not aware there was a vast expanse close by.
It wasn't until I entered seminary that I discovered the great space. When the door was opened to me, I found the journey one great adventure. I wandered, wondering what I would find next.
As I prepare for a confirmation retreat with teenagers, it will be my honor and privilege to open a door for them. Growing up I thought there was only one way to believe, to experience faith, to have a relationship with you. I had no idea that one could think their way through, could reason and rationalize, could experiment, have doubts, ask questions and wade into deeper waters. What a surprise to uncover new perspective, larger dimensions, and deeper thoughts. The greatest joy was unearthing the truth of your presence.
As I make ready to meet with the youth, I can hardly wait to greet them at the door, anticipating the journey they will take.
O Lord,
thank you
for allowing me
to be
a doorkeeper.
What a privilege
to stand
by the door
to faith.
Thank you
for entrusting me
with the knob,
the opener.
Make me
an instrument
of your
ever-long grace
and joy
I pray.
Love, Andrea
