Dear God,

How deep does evil go?  Under certain conditions does it have the power to overtake any person?

Sometimes I wonder how evil can get a foothold on a human heart and soul.  When I reflect upon human history throughout the ages and recount the evil done to so many particularly in the name of some cause, I question the ability of love to overcome the sin of evil.

The recent trial of a convicted sex offender, a pedophile who took advantage of children, caused me to wonder about evil once again.  What gets into the minds of those who decide to torment others spreading the number of those touched by evil?  How do we rid ourselves and our world of the potential for evil?  And how do we reclaim those persons impacted by evil with great love and compassion?

Almighty God,
cleanse your cosmos
of evil.
Let love
rise up
to help,
to heal,
and to
make whole
once again.
Let the power
of your light
shine upon us,
dispelling the darkness
of those things
that lurk
and look
to injure
and harm.
Make us new.
Restore us,
I pray.
