Dear God,

Why do we sometimes choose to be negative, to see life through a half-empty cup, and to push ourselves away from consolation, help, and love?  Why do we elect to step away from you rather that toward you where assistance awaits us?

Today my friend could not get past the issues that bothered him.  He could not take the reins and move forward.  He would not be consoled.  Nothing I offered was accepted or received.  My heart hurt for him.

Lord, we all turn our eyes in another direction when life is what it is.  When we are celebrating, we act as if you do not even exist.  Who needs God when life is good, really good, right?  When we experience an injustice, a serious injury to the soul, we just get angry.  Maybe we talk to you, mostly ticked off because you do not appear to want to change our situation.  When we are despairing, sometimes we are just too lost to reach out or maybe we just desire to sulk, complain, and believe you do not care.  But the best time to talk to you is when we celebrate, get angry, or despairing.  Isn't that so?  Who better to rejoice with us in our victories?  Who cares more when we are wounded?  Who wants more to feed us mercy than you?

Forgive us,
dear Christ,
when we fail
to take
your outstretched hand.
Set us free
from our
wretched state
so we
are enabled
to see
the light
of day.
Help us count
our blessings.
Turn us
to you,
I pray.

Love, Andrea
