Dear God,
This morning my daughter called to tell me my nine-year-old granddaughter Stella, the one with red hair, hazel eyes, and a few freckles had invited me to join her for my birthday lunch at the school cafeteria. The best invitation of the day, I said a quick yes. When she spotted me in the hall, her face lit up like the first lighting of the annual Christmas tree. When I walked over to her, she put her arm around me and walked that way down the hall, into the lunch room, and around to the kitchen. Every few seconds she would look up at me with adoring eyes and smile really big saying nothing. She didn't have to. Later I told my daughter the burned tomato soup was the worst I had ever eaten but the smile on my granddaughter's face was priceless.
I get the sense you operate the same way as Stella. You greet us the same way. You put your arm around us and look at what you have made, then you smile. You look at us as if we are the apple of your eye. That alone should make us drop to our knees in grateful thanksgiving.
Through Stella's kind invitation and loving gesture, I was once again brought to your attention. I realized that all love originates with you. The rush I experienced was the welcome grace you give to every one of your children. It fills us up and overflows like nothing else.
On my birthday,
you blessed me
on my birthday.
You took
a very
special child
and through her
you blessed
my life.
Thank you,
my dearest God,
thank you.
Love, Andrea
