Dear God,
How can we learn the way of love? How can we change ourselves to reach out in love to every human on the planet? How can we get to the heart of hatred and bitterness, dissolve them, and then create hearts of mercy? How can we allow love to heal us?
When I see faces of terrified people caught in gunfire, war, poverty, and injustice, I wonder how it is we have come to be who we are. Why do so many leaders steal from their people to line their own pockets? Why does lawlessness reign in so many countries, territories, neighborhoods, and homes? Why doesn't the law of love embrace every person?
What will it take to transform our hearts, O Lord? When will we ever stop lording over one another as if we are gods? When will we stop our personal fight for power over others? When will we learn to love?
Forgive us,
Merciful God,
when we fail
to love.
Teach us
the way
of agape love.
Take away
our weapons
and need
for power.
Lead us
to the light
that wants
to glow
in each one
of us.
Take away
our desire
for war
and all
its ugliness.
Transform us
by love
so we
will return
love for
anything else,
I pray.
Love, Andrea
