Dear God,
Holy moments are those millisecond times when a deep awareness of your presence strikes us. We know that we know that we know you are with us.
As we prepared to be discharged from the hospital, I felt awash with the extraordinary blessings we received while "guests" of IU Methodist Hospital. I'm not talking about the flowers or cards or gifts, but rather the reassuring looks on the faces of medical personnel who offered us compassion. It is true they are employees of the hospital in some fashion or another. They are paid to give service to those who come to them with special needs. Yet, there is something more they offered to us and at the moment of discharge I sensed the countless times we were blessed.
More and more I realize the blessings you give every day. Those blessings are usually not of a monetary value. They are mercy, comfort, assurance, kindness, encouragement, love, hope, strength, and peace. We may not recognize them at the moment they occur but later when we reflect upon our day or a time of difficulty. Suddenly we are aware of so much more.
As I drove home with my husband in the backseat because of air bags in the front seat and the risk they are to him at the moment, I welcomed the realization of your living presence from the moment a doctor came to visit at our home in Maine and noticed symptoms of heart disease to the transportation specialist who pushed him in the wheel chair and helped him in the car to return home after open heart surgery. Tears welled as I acknowledged your holy presence the whole time.
Loving God,
Comforter, Healer, and Teacher,
thank you
for the awareness
of your presence,
perhaps life's
greatest gift.
Thank you
for faith
that is
the lens
through which
we are enabled
to see you.
What blessing
is ours.
I shall
never forget
your generosity.
Love, Andrea
