Dear God,

How will the earth ever heal itself?  How will we ever learn to rise to the highest levels of love, morality, grace, forgiveness, and peace?  How will we ever finally learn to care for one another?

I watch our nation's leaders and I am embarrassed, ashamed, and irritated.  These servant leaders are meant to serve as guides to our young people and society; yet, they disappoint as many serve themselves lining their own pockets, squabbling like children, and kicking dirt in the eye of their opponents.  Simple solutions elude them as they continue to refuse to work together as one body to care for the nation.  They often look and act like bullies and fail to care for those they are elected to serve.

If only they (we) could sit at your feet together, maybe they could envision a better world together with help from prayer, forgiveness, mercy, and understanding.  If they sought higher ideals and then used those to model a community spirit, a kind regard for one another, and a willingness to work toward compassion, maybe we could have a chance at healing ourselves and each other.  I thought that was the way it was supposed to be done.

As I reflect upon others, I realize this kind of world comes together when each one does their part.  I must do my part every day.  I need to model kindness and cooperation.  I need to function out of love instead of arrogance.  I need to extend my hand and willingly take the hand of my neighbor.  I need to pray to change myself first and then others so together we will establish a way of approaching one another.  I need to seek your help knowing your will and plan will always include generosity, hospitality, respect, and understanding.  As I learn to operate at a higher level of faith, I make myself a ready participant in the whole healing process.

Merciful God,
forgive our
foolish way;
teach us
the way
of love.
Rid us
of selfishness
so we
may be enabled
to see
our neighbor
the way
in which
you see them.
Help us heal
our world
with love,
O Lord;
lead us,
I pray.
