Dear God,
Why is forgiveness so difficult? Why do we hold back and harbor ill feelings? What good does it do? Holding onto resentment and bitterness never makes us feel better. Failing to forgive ourselves keeps us sick in heart, mind, and soul; yet, we do it anyway.
Failing to forgive keeps the earth in chaos. Failing to forgive keeps us angry. Failing to forgive keeps us edgy and quick to judge. Failing to forgive keeps the world unhealthy.
Forgiveness cleanses, releases, heals, helps, and fills us with mercy and compassion. Who does not need forgiveness? Forgiveness gives a changed perspective. Forgiveness reconciles, restores, renews, and reunites. It is the healthiest tenet of faith. Forgiveness is love in action. Who does not need love and grace?
As I write several people come to mind who refuse to forgive. What a wonderful Christmas gift forgiveness could give.
Forgiving God,
thank you
for the blessing
of forgiveness.
Forgive us
when we refuse
your offer.
Teach us
your way
so we
may create
a better world
for everyone.
Love, Andrea
