Dear God,

There are so many beautiful gifts in life!  All of them come from you, Lord, all of them.

With the tree up, the outdoor lights displayed, and most of the gifts purchased, all that is left to do is to clean up, clean up the heart, mind, and soul.  What good is Christmas if our whole person is not clean and pure, ready for your son to come once again?  How can we expect to find Christ, the messiah, the king, the savior if our spiritual house is too dirty, too cluttered, and too unprepared for him to enter?

The call and challenge you give us each Advent is to make ready not with cookies, lights, gifts, shopping, and busyness but with faithful attention to the dwelling place inside.

Cleanse us all,
dear God,
cleanse us all,
particularly me,
I pray.
Make a place,
a holy space
in me
for you.
Ready us,
ready me
for you.
