Dear God,

How do we find you in the darkness?  We look closely and anticipate the light.  I think Advent is like this, we look for the light amidst the darkness.

Like the song Christ in the Stranger's Guise, you came to worship Sunday morning looking like a young man with Down's Syndrome who came to the pulpit and sang This is the Day with his mother.  You came as an older woman driving a van who stopped to ask if she could help put my newly-purchased Christmas tree in the car.  Finally, you appeared seemingly out of nowhere before sunrise carrying a package and a red-tipped cane.  Three appearances, three messages, three carrying the light of Christ.

Holy God,
thank you
for the light
that shines
in the darkness.
Thank you
for appearing
in unexpected places.
Thank you
for the message
of hope.

Love always, Andrea
