Dearest God,
Your living spirit is much like Christmas decorations that appear out of nowhere in yards, buildings, and homes and bring beauty and joy to all those around. As I drove a grandchild to school early yesterday morning, I noticed beautiful lights twinkling in the dark. What I realized was every decoration that is put up is an invitation to think about Advent and Christmas.
Every day more décor is popping up. Some are elegant and beautiful. Others not so much but all of it is in relation to Christmas, the day of faith, of light, of hope and peace. We remember a young woman who said yes to carry Jesus to the world. We think of shepherds and angels, animals and a manger, and even a bright star. If we give ourselves to it all, we pause to consider our own relationship to the child of the manger. We feel the urge to draw close, to let go of some things so we can make room for Christ.
Although Christmas has become so commercialized, still we stop, look, and listen for your living spirit to appear.
Come, Holy Jesus,
come to faith
in us.
Make us mangers
ready to
receive the gift
of Christmas.
Make us all
carriers of God,
I pray.
Love, Andrea
