Dear God,

You are the God with a tender heart.  You look upon your children with compassion.  You whisper our names.

I saw signs of you at the retreat center.  Art work on the walls, the crucified Christ at the altar, and the fellowship of the Catholic sisters presented you to us.  As we each one shared our sacred object from home, it was clear you were in our midst.

It was the love expressed to Theresa, a middle age mother who had just lost her 24-year-old son a few weeks ago where I saw you the most.  Your hand was outstretched to her tonight as retreatants reached out to her.  Stumbling in heart-felt grief, still she proclaimed her faith and called your name.
You brought relief as she put her hand in yours.

Help us
be still
and know you,
O God.
Thank you
for your
sweet compassion.
May we be
bright lights
for you.

Love, Andrea
