Dearest God,
You are the light, the light that shines in every darkness. When you shine your light on us, you give us opportunity to join you in that same light.
This morning in worship our pastor lit a candle and placed it on the altar. She prayed a prayer for all those who lost loved ones in 9/11. I remember that dark day. It seemed as though the light would never shine again. As we relived the scenes of death on the television, the darkness tried to suck us in leaving us in despair and deep darkness. But someone, many someones lighted candles at the scenes and around the world. Slowly the light captured us stealing away the power of the darkness.
You told us we are people of the light. You told us to shine our light. You told us to live in the light. You are the light, O Lord, the light that always shines. May we remember to shine our light for the world.
Holy God,
thank you
for the
original light
that came
into the earth.
Thank you
for light
that continues
to shine
even when
darkness threatens.
Thank you
for hope
that restores us
to the light.
Love, Andrea
