Dear God,

How can the cross be both sorrow and joy?  Our Palm Sunday liturgy seemed to take us up and then drop us down, only to lift us back up again.  How can that be possible?

In all my devotional readings I hear Dietrich Bonhoeffer talking about the cross.  He says everything has to go through the cross in order to better understand faith and grace and hope.  I wonder.  I really wonder.

Gracious God,
help me live
the Holy Week experience.
Help me
carry the cross
of Jesus.
There can be
no celebration
of the resurrection
without the death
on the cross.
Show me
the way,
I pray.
