Dear God,
Why must there always be an enemy? Why must we find someone to pin our hatred upon? My devotional readings lead me to ask the question. My experience of what is happening in our country and world cause me to ponder the meaning of enemies. Why must we point our finger at someone in order to raise ourselves up? And even with that, what is its value?
Are we not supposed to love one another? Aren't we to care for our neighbor, the poor in spirit, the lost, the lonely and the forgotten? Have we forgotten we are one among many, not the only one or the better one or the best of all? Must we have a ladder of enemies that we must climb over in order to get to the top?
I am troubled, O Lord; I am troubled!
Great God of Heaven and Earth,
I call upon
your name.
Teach us
your way,
your way
of love
and mercy
and compassion.
Forgive our
foolish ways.
Make us
your children
once again.
Remind us
our neighbor
near or far
is our brother
or sister.
Remake us
in your image,
I pray.
Love, Andrea
