Dear God,

Why do we insist on our own way?  As I read parts of the Bible, I hear the writers ask for God's favor and an end to their enemies.  Why must we expect to do in our enemies in order for us to rise to the top?

It is true, O Lord, there are those I cannot stand in the political arena.  I abhor their penchant to put down, mock, threaten, abuse and injure those they do not like.  I hate when people are categorized as bad.  I hate it when people walk daily in fear and anxiety.  Why must we hurt one another?  Why must we name one an enemy and another a friend?

Why do we have such trouble making peace?  Why can't we commit ourselves to be peacemakers?  Why can't we extend our hand to those who do not think like we think or practice life as we practice life or love as we love?  Isn't there common ground where we can stand together and make for peace?

Make us vessels
of peace,
O Lord.
Help us
bring peace
to one another.
We all
need peace
right now.

Love, Andrea
