Dear God,

On this day how can we celebrate freedom if freedom is just for some and not all?  How can our country made up of a potpourri population choose to offer freedom to select people or groups and work to rid ourselves of many others?  I do not understand.

How, O Lord, can we open our doors to the needy, the lost, the fearful?  I know there are many ramifications but how do we do it?  Why can we not open our arms to those who need it so much?  Why must our national leaders spend so much on themselves and rob those whose needs are so great?

It seems we have lost our way, Holy Father.  We care only for ourselves.  We have abandoned our commitment to help others.  You, O Lord, stopped to care for children, for the blind, the sick and the helpless.  You poured out your heart to those who asked for assistance, who turned to you, who trusted you.  Who have we become?

Blessed Lord,
overturn our
wicked ways.
Show us
the path
to holiness,
service, grace
and love.
Forgive our
selfish ways,
I pray.

Love, Andrea
